Japan’s Dec chemical output falls 3.9% from Nov

TOKYO (ICIS news)-- Japan’s chemical output declined a seasonally-adjusted 3.9% in December compared with the previous month, figures from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed on Tuesday.

Ethylene production rose 4.7% to 695,238 tonnes in December from 664,320 tonnes in November. This was a 4.5% increase from a year earlier, the ministry said.

Propylene output in December was 569,791 tonnes, up 6.3% month-on-month and up 5% year-on-year.

The ministry’s index of chemical industry output, excluding drugs, was at 101.9. The index is based on 100 for the average production in 2000.

All values in the following table of Japanese chemical production in December are in tonnes, except naphtha which is in thousands of litres.
