LONDON (ICIS news)--European base rigid sucrose and flexible slabstock coventional polyols contract prices remained steady into February because of stable market conditions, sources said on Wednesday.

Most flexible polyols buyers and sellers reported unchanged contract values within the range €1,545-1,630/tonne ($2,001-2,111/tonne) FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe), according to global chemical market intelligence service, ICIS pricing.

These sources said that a steady, balanced market had led to the rollover in contract prices. Demand was described as healthy by most sources, fuelled by good mattress sector offtake and strong levels of furniture buying in western Europe.

Likewise, the bulk of rigid polyols February contracts were agreed within an unchanged range of €1,630-1,720/tonne FD NWE.

Again steady market conditions were stated as the main reason for this stability. There were occasional reports of minor rises, but these were not common in the market as a whole. Many sources agreed a Q1 rigid polyols price, so no movement was possible this month.

Suppliers described an unchanged balanced-to-tight market underpinned by solid demand, aided by continued mild weather across much of Europe. Buyers confirmed consumption was healthy and talked of a stable market.
