Amec to work with China's SNCG on new PP plant

LONDON (ICIS news)--Amec has been appointed by China’s Shenhua Ningxia Coal Group (SNCG) to carry out engineering design on a new $1.5bn coal-to-chemical production complex, the company said on Friday.

 

The facility, in the Ningxia Hui region of north west China, would produce 540,000 tonnes/year of polypropylene (PP), the international project management and services company said.

 

It would also include a coal gasifier plant, a methanol and methanol-to-propylene unit and a polypropylene unit, Amec said in a statement.

 

The project, due to be completed in early 2009, would use coal from large reserves in the Ningxia region as feedstock.

 

The value of the contract has not been announced.
