TORONTO (ICIS news)--DuPont's strategy for biofuels has three main planks, a top company official said on Friday.
First, the company is focused on improving the yield per acre and increasing the ethanol yield of corn, led by its Pioneer biotechnology and seeds business, DuPont biofuels vice president John Ranieri told an industry conference in
The second plank focuses on cellulosic biofuels and technologies to convert non-food agricultural feedstocks into ethanol.
Ranieri pointed to DuPont’s joint programme with the US Department of Energy to use corn stover as feedstock. Corn stover describes the leaves, stalks and cobs left in the field after harvest.
And third, DuPont is researching new technologies to make advanced biofuels such as biobutanol.
