SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Sumitomo Chemical has shut its no 2 methyl methacrylate (MMA) line at Pulau Sakra, Jurong Island on Wednesday for a scheduled turnaround, company sources said on Wednesday.

The 80,000 tonne/year unit will be undergoing routine checks for the next 30 days. However, Sumitomo’s No 1 MMA unit at the same site, with a nameplate capacity of 53,000 tonnes/year, will be operating at full rates.

The latter is not due for its annual maintenance until an unconfirmed date in July this year.

The firm has a No 3 MMA project with 90,000 tonne/year capacity in the works, which is expected to come onstream during the first quarter of 2008.

The three facilities will boost Singapore’s MMA monomer capacity to 223,000 tonnes/year, one of the largest in the region.
