SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Eastern Petrochemical (Sharq) is expected to start up a new cracker and derivative plants at Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia, in mid-2008, industry sources said on Thursday.
The new facilities include a 1.3m tonne/year cracker, a 700,000 tonne/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) unit, a 400,000 tonne/year linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) unit and a 400,000 tonne/year high density PE (HDPE) plant.
Sharq, a 50:50 joint venture between Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC) and SPDC, a Japanese consortium headed by Mitsubishi Corp and Mitsubishi Chemical, currently operates a 1.3m tonne/year cracker and a 750,000 tonne/year LLDPE plant at Al-Jubail.
