THE 3RD ICIS Asian polymers conference, which is scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China, on April 16-17, will provide a major networking opportunity for executives in the Asian polymers markets to hear about the latest market trends in their sector.

"With China once again providing the engine for growth across the region, it was a natural choice for us to again select Shanghai as the venue for this year's conference," said ICIS conferences director Alan Tyler.

"As a group, we are gaining more and more traction in China, and now [that] we hold events in the country more than half our total delegates are from the mainland."

Tyler says that Asia's petrochemical industry is expected to be bullish in 2007, as supply will likely remain tight until at least 2008.

And as chemical companies position themselves to gain access to cheaper feedstock through mergers and acquisitions, particularly in the Middle East, the polymers market could remain competitive. In Asia, China is the fastest-growing market for chemicals. Consultancy firm KPMG said the country's market for petrochemicals is expected to grow more rapidly than its economy.

This is because it is boosted by demand from the manufacturing and construction industries, and investment in facilities.

Growth sectors in China include plastic resins, and consumption is likely to increase 8-10%/year through 2012.

Issues from raw material supply to the main end-user sectors will all be covered in the Asian polymers conference.

THE 4TH ICIS WORLD OLEFINS CONFERENCE

May 22-23

The 4th ICIS World Olefins conference has become a key event for the olefins industry.

It provides an ideal opportunity for delegates to gain a clear and first-hand picture of the major developments that are likely to affect their companies.

This year's event will examine the global olefins supply-demand balance, and how European production can compete.

The potential impact on the global economy of high crude oil prices is a major concern that will also be addressed at the conference.

How can European production remain competitive, and will Asia remain a key driver on the derivatives markets?

Additional highlights of the conference will include:

  • profitability and volatility: upstream versus downstream - views on recent attempts to find a suitable contract mechanism
  • an insight into Central, East European and Russian markets, projects and possibilities for growth and developments
  • an update on olefins projects in the Middle East
  • an update on the London Metal Exchange plastics futures market
  • a reflection on crude oil developments from a global economic perspective
  • the economic outlook for Asia and China - how long it will drive global markets
  • derivative updates - polyolefins and other chemical derivatives
  • the supply-demand outlook for the C4 stream
  • a technical view of the olefins industry - what limits the drive for larger-scale capacities?
