Japan PVC pipes output up 2.6% in January

TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan’s output of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes in January rose 2.6% compared with the same time a year ago, an industry body said on Monday.

The country produced 35,636 tonnes of PVC pipes in January, down 11.4% from 40,227 tonnes in December, Japan PVC Pipe and Fittings Association said.

January delivery of the product rose 6.6% to 39,279 tonnes year-on-year, the association said. This was, however, a 1% decrease from 39,692 tonnes month-on-month.

In fiscal 2005, from April 2005 to March 2006, total output of PVC pipes was 452,878 tonnes, it added.

Japan produced 3,081 tonnes of PVC fittings in January, a 1% decrease from the year-ago period. This was a 2% decrease from 3,145 tonnes in December.

January delivery of PVC fittings rose 2.3% to 2,872 tonnes compared with the same period last year, while it was a 14% fall from 3,341 tonnes the previous month.

The country produced a total of 40,214 tonnes of PVC fitting in fiscal 2005.
