Solvay uses new glycerine-to-ECH technique at TavauxLONDON (ICIS news)--Solvay has started commercial production at its new epichlorohydrin (ECH) plant at Tavaux, France, a company source said on Tuesday.

The first volumes were produced on Monday, said the source, following completion of the initial start-up process and testing.

The plant, which uses Solvay’s patented Epicerol glycerine-to-ECH technique, has a capacity of 10,000 tonnes/year.

Glycerine has been touted as a new feedstock for ECH, rather than the traditional propylene.

Spolchemie, the Czech epoxy producer, has also launched a new 15,000 tonne/year glycerine-to-ECH plant at Usti nad Labem, although all production will be used for captive epoxies.
