MOSCOW (ICIS news)--Russia-based potash producer OAO Uralkali said on Wednesday its output has risen by 16% year on year,  producing 1.2m tonnes in the first three months of 2007.

Located in Berezniki, in the Perm region of the Urals, Uralkali exports about 80% of its potash output.

The company said it aimed at boosting production of potassium chloride to 10m tonnes by 2016 to become the world’s top producer of potash.

However, in October Uralkali scaled down its potash production plans for 2007 to 5m tonnes from 6.2m tonnes following an accident at one of its mines.
