Formosa to start up Ningbo PP in July

SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Formosa Polypropylene (Ningbo) is to start up its 450,000 tonne/year unit in China in July, a senior company official said on Tuesday.

Construction on the polypropylene (PP) unit at Ningbo, Zhejiang province, was ongoing, Lin Han-Fu, the company’s president, said on the sidelines of the 3rd ICIS Asian Polymers conference in Shanghai.

Propylene feedstock will come from Taiwan, said Lin, who is also a vice president at parent company Formosa Plastics Corp.

"We have two propylene storage units with a total capacity of 80,000 tonnes which are enough to maintain supply for one to two months," Lin said in Mandarin.

The company has been preparing the storage units for trial runs recently, he added.

Formosa also has a PP storage unit which has a capacity of 50,000 tonnes or around one month’s output.

The conference started on Monday and ends on Tuesday.
