LONDON (ICIS news)--Dow has stopped all fresh sales of low density polyethylene (LDPE) for April, said a company source on Thursday.

“Demand has remained strong and we have had to put a stop on all new sales this week,” he said.

The company’s 45,000 tonne/year LDPE line at Leuna in Germany went on a planned maintenance outage earlier this week and was due to be down for 30 days.

The other line at the site, with a capacity of 180,000 tonne/year, would continue producing as normal, the source said.

LDPE sellers had already made it clear that they would be targeting higher prices for May, after a €25-30/tonne ($34-41/tonne) increase in April.

LDPE gross monthly prices were reported at €1,220-1,230/tonne FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe), according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
