LONDON (ICIS news)--INEOS Styrenics will shut down ethyl benzene (EB) and styrene monomer (SM) production for around a month at its Marl site in Germany due to a statutory maintenance shutdown, a company source said on Tuesday.

The turnaround was provisionally planned to take place from 19 May-15 June, but the source stressed that these dates were slightly flexible.

The shutdown will take place at the EB unit, which the source said has a nameplate capacity of around 500,000 tonnes/year. The 360,000 tonne/year SM unit will also be stopped during the EB shutdown.

INEOS Styrenics has prepared for the shutdown by building up styrene inventories and the company is now fully covered for its contractual commitments, the source said.

The statutory maintenance shutdown must be carried out every 10 years, according to German law.
