LONDON (ICIS news)--ChevronPhillips Chemical has resumed production at its Al-Jubail Aromax unit in Saudi Arabia including its 286,000 tonne/year cyclohexane (CX) line, a company source said on Thursday.

The date production resumed could not be clarified but ChevronPhillips said output began again later than 10 April, which joint venture partner Saudi Industrial Investment Group (SIIG) had stated in a press release on 14 April.

The capacity of the Aromax unit was not disclosed by ChevronPhillips but Saudi Industrial’s website puts its nameplate capacity at 550,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 370,000 tonnes/year of gasoline.

According to the source, the Aromax unit was restarted after 10 April, providing the benzene feedstock for the CX production, which resumed later.

CX operating rates were running to schedule, the source said.

Europe-based market sources said they expected the first CX shipments from ChevronPhillips to arrive in Europe towards the end of May and that this would be welcomed in the tight market.
