SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Solvay Solexis said on Wednesday it will expand its polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) capacity in France by about 30% to meet growth in existing markets and new applications.

The additional output at the plant in Tavaux will come on stream in early 2009, the subsidiary of Belgium chemicals group Solvay said in a statement, without giving the unit’s capacity.

A number of key industries and applications such as chemicals, semiconductors, oil and gas, pipes and fittings, were driving growth, it added.

New applications for its PVDF were also developing rapidly in other high-end markets, such as membranes for water purification in environmental technologies or key components in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, it said.
