SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Loyal Group, Asia's largest producer of expandable polystyrene (EPS), plans to bring forward the completion date of its east China expansion project to end-2007, a company source said on Friday.

The company originally planned to complete the expansion in first-half 2008.

Loyal’s current operations in east China include a 170,000 tonne/year unit in Ningbo and a 230,000 tonne/year facility in Jiangyin.

Construction of the two new lines, each with a capacity of 150,000 tonnes/year, started in the fourth quarter of 2006.

The company also runs a 180,000 tonne/year unit in Tianjin, a 180,000 tonne/year unit in Dongguan, and a 40,000 tonne/year unit in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

After the expansion, the company’s total EPS capacity will increase to 1.1m tonnes/year from the current 800,000 tonnes/year.
