MOSCOW (ICIS news)--Russia and Belarus on Tuesday revealed plans to build more bioethanol and rapeseed oil production outlets.

Siberia's Irkutsk region announced plans to build a new 52,000 tonnes/year bioethanol facility, regional authorities said in a statement on Tuesday.

The facility would be built by the end of 2008 at the premises of the insolvent Tulunsky plant at an estimated cost of roubles (Rb) 510m (€14.6m/$19.8m), according to the statement.

Also on Tuesday, Belarus's Grodno Azot chemical plant said it planned to finish construction of a 2,000 tonne/year $1.5m rapeseed oil plant by the end of 2007.

Grodno Azot plans to raise its biofuel capacity up to 50,000 tonnes/year eventually, the company said in a statement.

In January 2007, Russia Agriculture Minister Alexey Gordeyev announced plans to produce rapeseed oil for exports to Europe.

These plans included building a 300,000 tonne/year bioethanol plant in the Volgograd region, a 150,000 tonne/year rapeseed oil facility in the Krasnodar region and a 150,000 tonne/year bioethanol facility in the Omsk region.
