SAO PAULO (ICIS news)--Polyethylene (PE) producer Riopol (Rio Polimeros S.A.) on Tuesday stepped up competition by launching a new metallocene low density polyethylene (LLDPE) at the BrasilPlast 2007 Expo.

The new product called Metapol is an innovative resin produced under license from Univation Technologies, LLC.

“Metapol’s main features are clarity, brightness and transparency, as well as its processability,” said Marco Antonio Quirino, Riopol’s commercial director.

The product is easy to seal, a feature that increases productivity during automatic packing, Quirino added.

Two grades of Metapol are available: one whose main application is in automatic packing of solids and liquids, and another one geared to the thermo-shrinking film market.

In addition to advantages by its visual, mechanical and sealing properties, the resin can be used in pure form, eliminating blending needs, Quirino said.

The product is already available and has met good acceptance in customer tests. Production figures were not disclosed, but Quirino said the company was geared to adjust production to meet demand growth.

Riopol celebrated in April one year of production since start-up and it is currently in process of consolidating its presence in Brazilian domestic and regional markets.

Riopol’s production plant has a nominal capacity of 540,000 tonnes/year.
