SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--PetroChina subsidiary Lanzhou Petrochemical plans to restart its high density polyethylene and linear low density PE (HDPE/LLDPE) swing plant by this weekend, a company source said on Friday.

The 300,000 tonne/year facility in Lanzhou was shut on 29 April due to technical problems, she added.

“The shutdown lasted around 14 days,” the source said.

However, the disruption did not have much impact on the domestic market due to weak demand for LLDPE. It softened after the week-long Labour Day holidays amid thin trade, some distributors said.

The company’s 700,000 tonne/year cracker and other units at the same site were maintaining normal production - including another 60,000 tonne/year HDPE/LLDPE line, a 170,000 tonne/year HDPE plant, a 200,000 tonne/year low density PE (LDPE) unit and a 300,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) unit.

Besides its polyolefins facilities, Lanzhou Petrochemical operates a benzene, toluene and mixed xylenes (BTX) unit and producers acrylonitrile (ACN), styrene monomer (SM), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) and nitrile rubber.

Its affiliate, Langang Chemical, produces 110,000-120,000 tonnes/year of PP.
