Polimeri Europa stops all new orders for May PE

LONDON (ICIS news)--Polimeri Europa has stopped all fresh sales of polyethylene (PE) this week due to tight availability and continued strong sales, a company source said on Friday.

 

PE has tightened throughout the month due to some production issues and strong demand over the past few months.

 

LDPE in particular was experiencing tight availability as two cases of force majeure were in place this week, at Total and INEOS.

 

Total’s PE at Gonfreville in France was still under force majeure restrictions on Friday, a company source confirmed. Total declared force majeure on 12 April after cracker problems at the site.

 

INEOS Polyolefins declared force majeure on LDPE from its Cologne site in Germany on Friday 11 May. One of the two LDPE lines went down unplanned on 8 May. The other was already offline on a planned maintenance shutdown but will come back, as planned, on 25 May.

 

The two LDPE lines have a capacity of 350,000 tonnes/year, split more or less evenly between the two lines.

 

PE producers were attempting to increase prices in May.
