Maruzen MEG shuts down for maintenance

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Maruzen Petrochemical will restart its 115,000 tonne/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) unit in Japan at the end of this month, after a month-long turnaround, a source close to the company said on Monday.

“The plant was shut earlier this month, for maintenance lasting the whole month,” said the source.

Disruption to contract customers was not expected, because the producer had earlier beefed up inventories, the source added.

Most of Maruzen’s MEG is sold within the Japanese domestic market.

In recent years, Japanese demand for MEG has increased despite the reduction in polyester production, as other derivative sectors such as surfactants, anti-freeze and cleaning agents grow.
