US consulate says sorry, to home-deliver Amte's visa

The American consulate in Mumbai has regretted rejecting the visa application of social worker and Padma Shri awardee Prakash Amte, following a report in TOI on Monday. Dr Prakash Amte, son of Baba Amte, had applied for a US tourist visa for himself and his wife, Dr Mandakini, on Saturday, but consular officials turned it down, saying their income was too low.

Coal India eyes Canada JV

Public sector behemoth Coal India (CIL) is exploring opportunities to acquire steelgrade-coking coalmines in Canada through joint venture route. The company will go ahead with its Canada plan once it gets assurance from SAIL and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL). SAIL is now testing a small consignment of Canadian coking coal. If the grade is found satisfactory for Indian steel firms, then CIL will bid for mines in Canada, which could well be the first overseas project of Coal India.

Purolite of US files espionage suit against Thermax

The Aga family-controlled Thermax is facing a corporate espionage suit from US water treatment company Purolite. The Philadelphia-based $2m (€1.4m) company has sued Thermax and a team of senior executives, who worked with Purolite earlier, for allegedly “stealing intellectual property”.
