ISTANBUL (ICIS news)--Tunisia' s phosphate producer Group Chimique Tunisien (GCT) closed its ammonium nitrate (AN) plant at Gabes permanently in early May, said a company source on Wednesday.
The source added that this was largely for safety reasons. The plant had a capacity to produce 350,000 tonnes/year of AN.
Its closure will lead to a reduction in GCT's ammonia requirements of about 30,000-35,000 tonnes/year.
GCT is considering whether to produce calcium ammonium nitrate or stabilised ammonium nitrate at the site.
