SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Oil and gas major ExxonMobil plans to shut down units at its 305,000 bbl/day Jurong refinery in Singapore from late June for about 30 days of scheduled maintenance, an industry source close to the company said on Tuesday.

Units to be shut down at Jurong include a continuous catalytic reformer (CCR), a hydrocracker and an associated 1.28m tonne/year Group I and II base oils plant, the source added. However, ExxonMobil declined to comment on the plans.

The CCR unit at Jurong has a capacity of about 50,000 bbl/day, while the hydrocracker has a capacity estimated at 41,000 bbl/day.

The aromatics unit at ExxonMobil’s Jurong island plant could also be shut down for month-long maintenance from the “third week of June”, another industry source added, but this could not be confirmed. The unit produces 150,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 400,000 tonnes/year of paraxylene (PX) and an unspecified volume of toluene.

On 3 May this year, a 124,000 bbl/day crude distillation unit (CDU) at ExxonMobil’s other refinery in Singapore, the 300,000 bbl/day Pulau Ayer Chawan facility, was shut down following a fire which killed three workers. The company announced on 21 May that the unit had been restarted and was operating normally.
