NewsFlashFire strikes Taiwan’s FCFC utilities unit

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Formosa Chemical & Fiber Corp (FCFC), the Taiwanese aromatics major, continued with trial runs at its No 3 aromatics complex despite a fire at a utilities unit adjacent to it, company sources said on Thursday.

"The fire was put out within 10 minutes, but some people were injured," said one of the sources.

Three persons were injured, according to local media reports.

The company spokesman could not be immediately reached for comment.

FCFC’s No 3 aromatics complex at Mailiao can produce 700,000 tonnes/year of PX, 400,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 600,000 tonnes/year of styrene monomer (SM) and 150,000 tonnes/year of orthoxylene (OX).
