Soap company sold

Cleveland-based State Industrial Products has acquired Ohio Soap Products, an institutional cleaning products manufacturer. The privately owned company reportedly had annual sales of more than $100m.

Sweet settlement

McNeil Nutritionals, marketer of sweetener Splenda, and Merisant Company, producer of Equal, have reached a settlement regarding a lawsuit being heard in the District Court of Pennsylvania. Details of the settlement were not disclosed.

Symrise in partnership

Symrise and Italian biotech company Cutech Srl have formed a partnership in the development of innovative cosmetic active ingredients based on microalgae. The companies have been working together since 2003 in the field of biotissue engineering.

P&G's new detergents

Procter & Gamble is converting its entire North American portfolio of liquid laundry detergents to a "2x" concentrated formulation. Rollouts of the 50% compacted version, which include the brands Tide, Gain, Cheer, Era and Dreft, will start in September. The conversion will be completed by April 2008.

Coke buys vitamin h2o

Coca-Cola has bought Energy Brands, known as Glaceu, and its full range of water brands including Vitaminwater, for $4.1bn in cash. The acquisition will provide the company a platform in the growing active lifestyle beverages. Glaceu will operate as a separate business unit within Coca-Cola.
