FCFC suffers little damage from fire at No 3 unit

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Formosa Chemical and Fibre Corp (FCFC) said late on Thursday that it suffered little damage from a fire which hit its cooling unit yesterday.

The fire occurred at its new No 3 aromatics plant which was under trial runs, it said in a statement to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

Hydrogen gas was ignited and two people were hurt, it added.

Losses were estimated at New Taiwan dollar (NT$) 500,000 ($15,165), FCFC said. The cooling unit was not damaged, but it will need to replace the covering on some cables, the company added.
