PARIS (ICIS news)--Despite fears about delays, the IT systems that will manage Reach were launched on schedule on Friday, said a European Commission official.

Petteri Makela, from the commission’s Reach unit, confirmed that all the software needed by chemical companies to help them conform with the new European Union chemicals legislation was now online.

Reach is an acronym for the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restrictions of chemicals.

This includes the key IUCLID5 database which will be used for the registration of chemicals, and the EC's Reach implementation project (RIP3.01).

The latter will be crucial to organising the legislation as it provides navigator tools linked to guidance documents.

The IUCLID database can be accessed here.
