SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--BP Zhuhai will shut down its 500,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong for one week at the end of June, a company source said on Thursday.
“The shutdown had been planned since late last year and it’s to carry out maintenance work and also facilitate integration with the new plant which would start up later this year,” said the source, who added that supply to contract customers would not be disrupted given ample inventories.
The company is aiming to start up its new 900,000 tonne/year PTA line at the same Zhuhai site in November of this year. It will be the first PTA unit to use BP’s latest technology, which can produce up to 1m tonnes/year in a single-line facility.
BP Zhuhai is a joint venture with BP (85%) and Fu Hua Group (15%). BP is the largest PTA supplier in the world.
