LONDON (ICIS news)--Brunner Mond will invest £10m (€14.7m/$19.7m) in building a new 50,000 tonne/year sodium bicarbonate plant at its Northwich East site in Cheshire, UK, the company announced on 11 June.?xml:namespace>
The facility, which was due to be commissioned in the first half of 2009, would be Brunner Mond’s third sodium bicarbonate plant in Europe, and would bring the company’s combined production capacity to 180,000 tonnes/year.

“Our plans for Briskarb have met an enthusiastic response from the marketplace and we are confident that this new facility will allow us to become a major participant in the development of more efficient and effective emissions-control solutions,” said Brunner Mond sodium bicarbonate business director John Melia.
Brunner Mond has developed its Briskarb brand of sodium bicarbonate specifically for flue gas treatment.
