HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Honeywell International said on Tuesday that it will shut its nylon textile manufacturing operations in Anderson, South Carolina, by the end of August, effectively exiting the nylon fibres business.

Honeywell would not disclose the capacity of the plant.

"The move is one of the final steps in Honeywell’s previously announced efforts to exit its nylon fibre operations," said Robert Donohoe, manager, external communications, Specialty Materials.

Honeywell sold its North American carpet fibre assets to Shaw Industries in 2005, and it is in the process of selling its Shanghai-based nylon carpet fibre operation to Invista of Wichita, Kansas. That deal is expected to close this quarter.

Donohoe said Honeywell wanted to focus in more on its core businesses, such as nylon resins and caprolactam.

Honeywell operates a 225m lb(102,059 tonne)/year nylon 6 resins plant in Chesterfield, Virginia, according to global market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

The company's plant in Hopewell, Virginia, is the world’s largest single-site producer of caprolactam and ammonium sulfate fertilizer.
