NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has chosen ExxonMobil Research and Engineering (EMRE) as its technical collaborator for 500,000 tonnes/year alkylate unit at its complex in Abhayachandrapur near Paradip port, Orissa state.
A government official told ICIS news on Wednesday that the IOC project envisaged installation of an alkylation and an n-butane isomerisation unit for the production of high-octane alkylate, which is a premium gasoline additive.
The alkylate facility is slated to go on stream by October 2011 when the entire phase I of the Paradip complex is expected to become operational.
The project includes a paraxylene unit, polypropylene unit and styrene plant. IOC would set up a naphtha cracker and downstream polymer units under phase II.
IOC is the second company after Reliance Petroleum Limited (RPL) to plan the manufacture of alkylate.
Alkylate is an isoparaffin that is manufactured by combining isobutene with propylene and butylene in presence of an acid catalyst.
