LONDON (ICIS news)--Solvay’s plans to restructure its chlor-alkali plant at Bussi in Italy are awaiting approval by the authorities, a company source said on Thursday.

The source said that production at the plant ceased at the end of May. The intention was to reduce its chlor-alkali portfolio, focus on lower production of chlorine, caustic and hydrochloric acid (HCl).

Precise details were not disclosed, prior to the final decision.

A company source responsible for chlorinated solvents had previously expressed plans to cut chloromethane production at the plant, as it was deemed no longer “economically viable”.
