NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is launching a number of biodiesel initiatives, a company official said on Monday.
IOC is seeking expression of interest (EOIs) from consultancy firms for undertaking feasibility studies in all segments of bio-crop plantation and biodiesel production.
It is also seeking separate EOIs from all non-government organisations for four other activities: identifying land for plantations and arranging the acquisition; supply of seeds; development of bio-crop nurseries and plantation & upkeep of bio-crops.
After receiving all the EOIs by 10 July deadline, the company is going to confirm its strategy for bio-crop plantations and biodiesel production.
IOC is pursuing projects for production of biodiesel from tree-borne oil (TBO) plants such as Jatropha curcas and Pongamia pinnata, maintenance of plantations, seed collection, extraction of oil and transesterification.
The company is aiming to identify 30,000 hectares of wasteland in three states on which plantations of bio-crops would be raised by farmers and other stakeholders.
It has already identified 13,000 hectares in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states.
