LONDON (ICIS news)--UK-based AMEC has been awarded a contract to design and manage the expansion of PotashCorp’s (PCS) Cory potash mine in Saskatchewan, Canada, the company said in a statement.

Work will begin immediately and is expected to take 36 months to complete, AMEC, the international project management and services company said on Monday.
PCS is investing C$900m ($841m/€625m) in debottlenecking and expanding the Cory mine.
The project will increase the site’s mining and hoisting capability, extend the mine’s warehousing and loading facilities and increase production capacity by 1.2m tonnes to 2m tonnes and create a new facility to produce red potash.
Escalating global demand for potash, which is expected to rise by more than 12% this year, is cited as one of the reasons PCS is investing in the upgrade.
($1 = C$1.07; €1 = C$1.44)
