LONDON (ICIS news)--US diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer exports for May stood at 305,282 short tons, 50% down on the same period last year due to healthy production demand in the domestic market.

Major recipients of exported DAP were Brazil (86,000 short tons) and Argentina (53,000 short tons), according to data from The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) released earlier this week.

Total DAP exports for the first five months of the year reached 1.55m short tons, down nearly a third on the same period of 2006.

US monammonium phosphate (MAP) exports were 284,069 short tons in May, up 28% on the same month of 2006. The major recipients were Canada (97,000 tonnes) and Brazil with 84,000 tonnes.

Total exports in the January-May period reached 1.0m short tons, up 12% on 2006, the data showed on Tuesday.

Major US DAP and MAP producers include Mosaic, PotashCorp and Mississippi Phosphates.
