Belarus potash exports up 39.7% in first quarter

MOSCOW (ICIS news)--In the first quarter of 2007, Belarus exported 1.32m tonnes of potash, up 39.7% year on year, the country’s statistical agency said on Tuesday.

 

Meanwhile, the Belarus Kalium Company (BKC) aimed to export 2.8m tonnes of potash to China this year, company CEO Vladimir Nikolayenko said.

 

In August 2005, Belarus authorities approved a plan to set up BKC, a joint venture of the country’s Belaruskaliy and major Russian potash producers, Uralkali and Silvinit, to co-ordinate the nation's potash exports.

 

However, Silvinit refrained from joining the venture and the Belarus-registered BKC is now co-owned by Belaruskaliy and Uralkali.
