SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Japan's Nihon Oxirane plans to turnaround its styrene monomer (SM) unit on 29 August, a company source said at the sidelines of the Asian aromatics & derivatives conference on Thursday.

The company operates a propylene oxide-styrene monomer (POSM) unit in Chiba, which produces 180,000 tonnes/year of PO and 425,000 tonnes/year of SM.

The turnaround will last for 50 days and is scheduled along with its cracker shutdown.

The company would need to procure around 30,000-40,000 tonnes of SM to prepare for the shutdown, the source added. Around half of the requirement amount has been obtained so far.

Nihon Oxirane, a joint venture between Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical and US major Lyondell Chemical, operates a propylene oxide (PO)/SM plant in Sodegaura, Chiba prefecture.
