LONDON (ICIS news)-- Belgium-based Tessenderlo on Thursday said it planned to shut chlorobenzene and electrolysis plants in northwest Italy.
A chlorotoluene unit and hydroelectric power stations at Pieve Vergonte will remain open.
Tessenderlo said excess chlorobenzene capacity in Asia coupled with a sharp decline in volumes and prices had led to a "contiuous and dramatic" decrease in the margins earned from chlorobenzene products.
Measures were being taken to maintain as many jobs as possible at the site, it said.
New business ventures are being developed, it added, based on current manufacturing business, including tolling activities, product purification and assocaiated services.
