SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Indonesia’s sole cracker operator Chandra Asri is expected to restart its Merak cracker, which was unexpectedly shut down last week, later in the afternoon, a company source said on Monday.

The West Java-based 520,000 tonne/year cracker was shut down last week after a small blaze occurred at the facility.

“The cracker was supposed to restart on Sunday, but it was delayed for one more day as the contractors needed more time to repair some equipment at the unit,” the source said.

“The cracker will restart later this afternoon by around 3-4pm (07:00-0800 GMT),” he added.

The operator said it hoped to increase the cracker’s operating rate to 90% before the end of the week.
