SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Nan Ya Plastics shut its No3 350,000 tonne/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) plant at Mailiao in Taiwan earlier this week for a three-week turnaround, a company source said on Thursday.

“The plant was shut about two days ago for maintenance lasting about three weeks,” the source said.

Another source close to the company confirmed the shutdown of the No3 unit, and added that the No1 350,000 tonne/year line at the same Mailiao site would be shut in September for the turnaround lasting about 20 days in September.

“The September shutdown is in line with the cracker shutdown,” the source said. Sister company Formosa Petrochemical, which supplies feedstock ethylene to Nan Ya’s MEG facilities, will shut its No2 900,000 tonne/year cracker for 40-45 days starting 3 September.

Nan Ya operates a third 350,000 tonne/year MEG unit, which is a joint venture with China Man-made Fiber Co (CMFC) and commonly known as the Nanchung line. There are no turnaround plans for the Nanchung unit, a CMFC source said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Nan Ya had also just started up its No4 700,000 tonne/year line at Mailiao, and was preparing to ship out its first cargo later this month.

With the four units in Taiwan and its affiliated MEG lines in the US, Nan Ya is now the third largest MEG supplier in the world, after Sabic and MEGlobal.
