Korea Kumho delays BD repairs on high demand

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Korea Kumho Petrochemical Co (KKPC) will postpone the shutdown of its 210,000 tonne/year butadiene (BD) extraction plant for maintenance to 2008 from October 2007, a company source said late on Wednesday.

This is the second delay for the plant’s turnaround with one originally scheduled in May which was then pushed back to October.

The delay in the shutdown was due to the tight supply situation in the northeast Asian market for styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) as tyre producers were purchasing contract volumes to begin manufacturing for third quarter.

The plant will be kept open to ensure that sufficient SBR will be produced to meet contract requirements, said the same source.
