LONDON (ICIS news)--SABIC’s new 400,000 tonne/year low density polyethylene (LDPE) unit at Wilton in the UK is no longer due on stream by the end of 2007, a company source confirmed on Friday.
“Commercial quantities are now only expected as of July 2008,” the source said.
SABIC was raising PE prices for July after third-quarter ethylene settled last week at a €35/tonne ($47/tonne) increase.
“We are looking to implement hikes of €35/tonne in PE,” the source said on Friday.
LDPE prices were moving up towards gross levels of €1,300/tonne FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe) in July, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
