Jam to begin Assaluyeh trial production in Q3

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Jam Petrochemical is expected to start trial production at its 1.32m tonne/year cracker project at Assaluyeh later in the third quarter, a source close to the much-delayed project said on Monday.

“Intake of feedstock is set start by September. Commercial production will, however, begin only by December 2007, as per the last deadline,” the source added.

The subsidiary of Iran’s National Petrochemical Co (NPC) has postponed the start-up schedule of the project five times in the past few years due to limited funds and shortage of skilled manpower.

The cracker, also known as Olefins No 10, was originally expected to be completed by end-2005.

The Jam project includes a high density polyethylene (HDPE) unit, a HDPE/linear low density PE (LLDPE) unit and a polypropylene (PP) unit each with a capacity of 300,000 tonnes/year.

The Arya Sasol cracker complex, also located at Assaluyeh, is expected to start up in the third quarter.

 The project, also known as Olefins No 9, includes a low density PE (LDPE) unit and a medium density PE (MDPE)/HDPE plant, each with a capacity of 300,000 tonnes/year.

Arya Sasol is a joint venture between NPC and South Africa's Sasol.
