LONDON (ICIS news)--Production at Interquisa’s purified terephthalic acid plant (PTA) in San Roque, Spain, may be reduced until 1 August on ongoing unplanned production issues, a company source said on Monday.
Force majeure was declared on 2 July at the Spanish plant, which was currently running at 75% capacity, the source added.
Nameplate capacity for the unit was up to 750,000 tonnes/year.
Buyers expressed concern that the Europe PTA market was growing increasingly tight on strong demand and felt that the current situation would support producers’ firm approach towards a price increase for June contracts.
Downstream, the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) sector was also affected by news of a tightening market. Market players were reluctant to settle July prices, preferring to wait for further direction from the PTA market.
