SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Shanghai Golden Phillips Petrochemical started a 30-day planned turnaround of its 150,000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (HDPE) line in Shanghai on Tuesday, a company source said, with prices rising due to scarcity.

Blow moulding grade HDPE, the company’s major product, continued to edge up. Distributors were heard selling the material at about yuan (CNY) 13,000/tonne ($1,711/tonne) ex-warehouse in east China, CNY500/tonne higher than in early June.

The shutdown was in line with the turnaround of the source of its feedstock ethylene supplier, Shanghai Petrochemical’s (SPC) No 1 cracker.
