NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) intends to export 110,000 tonnes of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) over the next 48 months, a company official said on Tuesday.

The company official added that IOC was working out a logistics plan to transport this quantity from its refinery-cum-aromatics complex at Panipat in Haryana state.

Under the plan, IOC plans to transport by road PTA to all segments of the polyester industry – staple fibre, yarn, film and chips.

It intends to move 60,000 tonnes to Nagpur in Maharashtra where Indo Rama Synthetics (India) Limited (IRSL) operates a polyester complex.

IOC plans to move 70,000 tonnes of PTA to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust’s (JNP) near Mumbai.

The balance 40,000 tonnes of PTA would be transported to Mundra port in Gujarat state.

The current financial year 2007-08 would be first full year of commercial production for the aromatics complex.

It has PTA capacity of 550,000 tonnes/year, paraxylene capacity of 360,000 tonnes/year and benzene capacity of 20,000 tonnes/year.

The complex started commercial supplies of PTA on 19 September 2006.

It sold the entire PTA production of 183,000 tonnes in the domestic market during the remaining part of 2006-07.

IOC would transport 70,000 tonnes to Silvassa in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli where companies such as JBF Industries have their polyester plants.

Overall, IOC is planning to transport a total of 380,000 tonnes of PTA to domestic consumers located across the country.
