India’s GSML to build polyester chip plant by 2008

NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--India’s Garden Silk Mills Limited (GSML) on Friday awarded a contract to the China Textile Industrial Engineering Institute (CTIEI) for the setting up of a continuous polymerisation plant.

 

The plant would have a capacity of 260,000 tonnes/year and produce textile grade polyester chips.

 

It would start production by October 2008.

 

GSML also stated that it had signed an agreement with Germany’s Oerlikon-Barmag and Japan’s TMT Company for the supply of a 55,000 tonnes/year polyester yarn plant.

 

The company could not be reached for additional information on these projects.

 

GSML currently operates a partially oriented yarn (POY) capacity of 115,200 tonnes/year and polyester chips capacity of 180,000 tonnes/year in the Surat district of Gujarat state.

 

Apart from producing polyester, the company manufactures fabrics and ready made garments.

 

The company has production facilities at three locations in Surat district.
