MOSCOW (ICIS news)--Russia is working to move the country's system of evaluating chemicals closer to the EU's Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (Reach) standard, the Russian Industry and Energy Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

On 5 September 2007, a conference is planned in Moscow to introduce Reach and make recommendations for the Russian chemical industry, it said.

The statement was released following talks in Moscow on Monday between Energy and Industry Minister Viktor Khristenko and Gunter Verheugen, vice-president of the European Commission.
