SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Mitsui Chemicals, Asia’s largest phenol-acetone producer, plans to resume operations at its Osaka plant on 25 July after a routine turnaround, a company official said on Wednesday.

The plant, which can produce 200,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 120,000 tonnes/year of acetone, was shut for maintenance at the end of June.

The producer also operates two other phenol-acetone units in Japan. It has a joint venture plant with Idemitsu in Ichihara, Chiba prefecture, with a nameplate phenol capacity of 230,000 tonnes/year and 80,000 tonnes/year for acetone.

The unit had a maintenance shutdown in April.

Its other unit in Chiba can produce 190,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 114,000 tonnes/year of acetone. There is no schedule for a shutdown at the facility this year, the official said.

Separately, Mitsui’s plant in Singapore is currently undergoing a turnaround, which will be completed by 5 August.

During the shutdown, phenol capacity will be raised by 50,000 tonnes/year to 300,000 tonnes/year, while acetone output will be increased by 30,000 tonnes/year to 180,000 tonnes/year.
